Project overview
The well-known Thailand architecture and interior design company, HAS Design and Research, founded by the renowned architects Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee, has ingeniously reimagined the use of steel pipes as bricks. In their innovative approach, they have crafted several "pipe bricks" standing nearly 4 meters tall and wide. These structures not only offer a microclimate effect of sunshade, lighting, and convection ventilation but also reduce construction waste, promoting environmental protection.
The Phetkasem Artist Studio exemplifies this pioneering technology by merging steel pipe bricks with soil spraying. This blend of green, low-energy methods and convection ventilation effects introduces a novel residential living mode suited for the tropical climate. Remarkably, no air conditioning system is installed on the first floor. In the nearly 40-degree tropical Thai climate, the design connects the front and backyards with strategic openings, channeling the common through-the-hall wind found in Thai streets and alleys, promoting a lifestyle harmoniously close to nature.
The architectural and interior design of this stand-out project is credited to Hung And Songkittipakdee / HAS Design and Research, with photography credit to Ketsiree Wongwan.
